March Birthstone
Aquamarine belongs to the beryl family — the same mineral group as emerald. It forms in coarse-grained granite and pegmatite veins, growing slowly as long hexagonal crystals. The blue-green color comes from trace iron. Brazil is the primary source of fine aquamarine worldwide. Pakistan, Madagascar, and Russia's Ural Mountains also yield exceptional material.
The name is Latin: aqua marina, water of the sea. Which is precise. Clear, cool, somewhere between blue and green depending on the angle and light. It suits people who move without friction — communicators, travelers, those who adapt easily. The March-born often carry this quality: a lightness, an ease in transition. Wear it near water or on days that call for clarity.
Three ways to read this month: aquamarine (Modern), aquamarine (Planetary), bloodstone (Ancient). The older tradition assigned bloodstone to March — a stone of courage and endurance. Aquamarine took over in the modern list. We use aquamarine: the one that carries the sea.
