Peridot Jewelry

Peridot is one of the few gemstones that forms in only one color. It is a magnesium iron silicate — olivine — created in the upper mantle of the earth under extreme heat and pressure, then carried to the surface by volcanic activity. Some peridot arrives from space: it has been found in pallasitic meteorites, iron-nickel meteorites with olivine crystals embedded in their structure. The historic source is Zabargad Island in Egypt, mined for over 3,500 years. Arizona in the United States, Pakistan's Kohistan region, Myanmar, and China are significant modern sources.
The color is specific and unmistakable: warm yellow-green, the tone of new leaves in direct sunlight. It is not a subtle stone — it reads clearly from a distance and brightens in daylight. For people with direct energy, who bring warmth without trying, who are easy to be around in the best way. Wear it outdoors, in summer light, or any time something bright and uncomplicated is called for.
