July Birthstone
Ruby is corundum — the same mineral family as sapphire — colored red by trace chromium, which absorbs blue-green light and emits a characteristic red fluorescence. The finest rubies come from Myanmar's Mogok Valley, a source producing exceptional stones for over a thousand years. Thailand, Sri Lanka, Mozambique, and Madagascar are also significant.
The best rubies are described as pigeon's blood: deep red with a slight blue undertone, saturated without being dark. The July-born tend to be decisive and consistent — someone who commits fully once a direction is chosen. Wear it on days when conviction matters more than comfort.
Three ways to read this month: ruby (Modern), ruby (Planetary), onyx (Ancient). The ancient tradition gave July to onyx — a stone of strength and protection. The modern world chose ruby. July at Goldlip is ruby: the stone that holds its color without apology.
