Amethyst

Amethyst is purple quartz, colored by trace iron and natural irradiation built up over millions of years. It grows inside geodes — hollow cavities in volcanic basalt that slowly fill with crystal as silica-rich groundwater circulates through the rock. Brazil is the world’s largest producer. Uruguay yields smaller volumes of exceptional saturation. Zambia produces material with a richer, slightly bluer tone that gem cutters particularly prize.

The color ranges from pale silver-lilac to a purple so deep it borders on blue. It holds light without throwing it — quietly vivid, consistent from different angles. For those who process slowly and thoroughly, who prefer depth over spectacle, who are drawn to the thing underneath the thing. Best worn in low light, during creative work, or on days that need grounding without being heavy.
